Our decision to help start an American Heritage Girls Troop            05/23/2013 11:38 PM

This week was our last official meeting for this school year for my girls American Heritage Girls Troop. We have been members of this particular troop for about two years ever since my girls wanted to join a scouting program. I'm glad to say that the girls have really enjoyed being a part of this organization and so have we. So much so, that we are now looking to start a troop closer to home.  Although I'm a little nervous about what that entails, I am excited at the possibility of helping to grow the organization and being a part of something new in my community.

How Catholic Geography got us talking about Missionary Work and SpiritFest            10/25/2012 12:47 PM
When we signed the kids up for a Catholic Geography class with a Co-op this semester, little did we know that they would dislike it and love it at the same time. It was both a pain and a blessing and while the kids complained about everything they had to do, they also realized what they were learning was pretty special and it was also something that an event coming to Corpus Christi very soon is focusing on...

American Heritage Girls Inspire My Girls            10/11/2012 06:42 PM
When my girls decided to join a scouting group last year, we had no idea that they would find a home in American Heritage Girls. We honestly hadn't really heard that much about AHG, but after doing our research between that and Girls Scouts, we felt that American Heritage girls was the right fit. They are the sister organization to Boy Scouts and, most importantly for us, they are Christ centered and that is something that is consistent from group to group. One of the things they really focus on with the girls is service to others. So, when our troop decided to ask for volunteers to take some treats to one of the busiest fire stations in Corpus Christi, my girls jumped on the opportunity and signed up! Those cute little creative girls came up with this and they were more than happy to share them with the firefighters that serve our community.

Why We Listen to Christian Music            09/28/2012 01:00 PM
When life has dealt you a very stressful and difficult situation and when you are going through something you can't believe is happening, what do you do? How do you handle it? How do you bear the surrealism of it all? We had just that happen in our family a few years ago and because of that, Christian Music entered our lives and is still with us daily. Find out what happened that made us change our radio station from the norm and popular to something not so mainstream, but wonderful.

This Is How I Remember It            04/30/2012 01:03 PM
The laughter, the smiles, the grinning, the hugging, the kissing, the shaking hands, the pretty white dresses, the dapper dudes in their Sunday best, the proud parents, grandparents, relatives and friends is how I remember it and that's exactly how it was.

Washing of the Feet            04/05/2012 09:49 PM
Today is Holy Thursday and on this day of The Lord's Supper, I found myself experiencing a most blessed event that I found most humbling. For those of you who have attended Holy Thursday mass, you too have probably felt this. For where else would you be able to see a leader in our religious community washing and kissing the feet of twelve members of our parish?

Meatless and Seafood Free Lenten Menu            02/26/2012 10:08 AM
As so many Christians everywhere are observing the Lenten season, so does my family. With our hearts and minds preparing for Easter through the acts of penance, prayer, and almsgiving, fasting and abstinence are on our list of priorities. As a person with seafood allergies and the one preparing meals in our home, abstinence becomes a challenge. We are not a vegetarian family (although sometimes I think we should be). So, what do you eat if you can't have seafood? How do you feed your family a complete meal without that protein in the form of chicken, pork, or red meat which so many of us rely on?

A Holy Communion Mother's Day            05/16/2011 04:31 PM
So last week was Mother's Day, and while most Mother's were hopefully getting pampered by their families and being treated to breakfast in bed, or jewels, a fabulous meal, or maybe just getting a break and enjoying bon bons while hanging out on the couch (which by the way many people think mom's do all day), I was not thinking about what I wanted, but instead I was running around getting ready for a crazy, but glorious day....

Fat Albert is Dead!            05/18/2010 10:04 PM
'Fat Albert' is dead! He died yesterday during the day. In the morning we knew he wasn't doing that well. His tail looked like it had been taken off somehow and we were worried for him. We were right to be worried, he died later in the afternoon. Our son said......'this time it's for real,' and it was.
