Easy Unique Snowflake Templates            12/18/2013 10:26 PM by Ester

The closer we get to Christmas, the more we get crafting with the kids. It’s something we look forward to every year. From creating our upcycled Christmas ornaments using plastic milk bottles to creating christmas card gift boxes with our homeschool group to making gumdrop towers, crafting is always fun to do this time of year. Lately, we’ve been seeing some really great snowflake tutorials online and we thought it might be kind of fun to try to make some of our own. So, we opted to create some simple, yet unique snowflakes that have special meaning for us. Check them out.

Whataburger Milk Jugs Upcycled into Kids Christmas Crafts            11/26/2013 11:54 PM by Ester

Yesterday, I wrote about how we upcycled McDonald’s milk jugs to make some cute kids Christmas crafts. Today, I wanted to show you what you could do with some Whataburger milk jugs. Whataburger milk jugs are slightly taller and skinnier than McDonald’s. The shape is also completely different, but they are also great to do upcycled projects with. Once again, we chose Christmas just because my daughter begged me too! So, today we made a snowman and a penguin.

McDonalds Milk Jugs Upcycled to Christmas Kids Crafts            11/25/2013 10:09 PM by Ester

I looked in my recycle bin the other day and could not help noticing that we had quite a few McDonald’s Milk Jugs in it. My daughter and I decided there had to be a way to recycle, better yet, upcycle, these jugs. Since Christmas is around the corner and the kids seem to get a longer and longer break from school, we came up with a few upcycled Christmas crafts to pass the time.

Crock Pot Chicken and Chorizo Meal            11/6/2013 4:50 PM by Ester

I have a confession to make. Our family eats a fair amount of crock pot meals. It’s just so incredibly convenient when I have to take the kids to swim practice as often as I do and I can’t be home to cook during that time. Inevitably practice falls from 6-8pm not to mention the drive to and from, etc. I find that if I don’t take the time to plan a meal ahead of time, then we’re hitting the drive thru windows and that isn’t always good especially on the checkbook and the waistline! This week my trip to the grocery store was delayed and figuring out what to do for dinner was a little scary. That’s when I thought I would try something different. So, from the desperation of making a meal and realizing that my only protein source in the house was a few chicken breasts and some pork chorizo, I served Crock Pot Chicken and Chorizo that night. My family loved it.

Celebrations after Halloween - Dia de los Muertos            11/1/2013 3:41 PM by Ester

Halloween night and trick or treating might be over, but for many of us the celebration continues. Last night we had a fun night celebrating in the neighborhood. The kids had a blast! It’s always fun to watch all our neighborhood kids enjoying the evening and handing out candy. Having been gone for a family funeral for several days, we almost didn’t have time to get anything ready, but we are so glad we did. In fact, for us, the celebration continues. From Halloween night to Dia de los Muertos, there’s plenty for families to enjoy this weekend.
